Heeyy, welcome to my Blog and to my first official post!! It feels so weird saying ‘my blog’; it has been a long time coming! But first big shout out to my friend Tracey for the blog name, love you girl!
A bit about me:
My name is Bisola, I’m an engineer working and living in Manchester. Weirdly, having a blog is not something I ever thought I would do but here we are! There’s definitely a lot of truths in the saying “Never say never”. (Check out my ‘About’ page to get to know me better and what to expect from the blog!)
So what changed my mind?
No matter how much we think we do, we really have no idea what we are capable of or even fully grasp who we are, hence this constant journey of self-discovery called life. I had started to get this niggly feeling of being too comfortable (I don’t know if anyone knows the feeling?) and I felt I really needed to switch things up and step out of this comfortable lull I was in. I didn’t know how but I knew I had to do something, start somewhere.
My last minute trip to Malaysia changed things for me in 2017. It was my first time in Asia and while I was there, I felt so free, fearless, out of my comfort zone and I loved it. I wanted everyone I knew to experience and see the wonderful things I was seeing. That’s where the first thought of a blog came in; even I couldn’t believe I was considering it, but remember, trying to push myself.
In true Bisola fashion, I procrastinated, if there was procrastination Olympics, I would get a gold medal every damn time! Seriously, I need help! I was scared of failure and came up with every excuse possible: I needed a great camera first or no one would like my pictures or take it serious, I needed to have travelled to way more countries than I have, I needed more insta followers and so on. Doubt really took root and sprouted branches in my head and it didn’t feel good. I changed this post at least 5 times!
At the start of 2018, I had to sit down and have a heart to heart with myself and I told myself to do it or I’d look back and regret it. I had to stop making excuses and start with what I had. Yes I might try and fail but I’ve come to accept that’s okay! It’s better to try and fail than not try at all, (not that I intend to fail though). I still procrastinated for the first couple of months but I had to kick myself and get things going finally.
Life begins at the end of your comfort zone- Neil Donald Walsch
Travel has helped me become a happier, richer and much more open person. I definitely still have a long journey of self-discovery ahead of me but I’m so excited. I want this blog to be a place for us to connect with each other, have fun, share realistic experiences and adventures, inspire each other and see the world together. I’m not trying to portray perfection or unrealistic goals, I just want to share my experiences, hear yours and create a community that helps each other see the world.
So here’s to us challenging and discovering ourselves, leaving behind the fear of life and failure, grabbing life by the balls and exploring the corners of the world. Laugh hard, go sky-diving, learn how to swim (if like me you can’t lol) and invest in things that make you feel full. Time is so precious; don’t waste it thinking what if, just do it while you can!
As Neale Donald Walsch said “Life begins at the end of your comfort zone”, so come on, let’s live!
I hope this will be the first of many visits, please leave a comment, tell me how you’re getting out of your comfort zone this year and let’s get to know each other!
This our world is a big place and best believe you’ll catch Bis in every corner of it!
Love,
